Florida’s Best Source for Sustainably Sourced Red Snapper
Red Snapper is one of our most popular fish in the retail market, and that’s probably because it’s one of the most famous! These delicious flaky, white, and delicate Snapper fillets can be baked, grilled, broiled, or pan-fried.
Wild Seafood Market is owned and operated by the same people who you brought you Gulf Wild. In its never-ending attempt to preserve and protect the fish species in the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf Wild program tags and tracks fish from the waters in which they’re caught to the kitchen where they’re prepared. For instance, each Red Snapper caught by Wild Seafood Company is assigned a Gulf Wild tag which allows anyone in the chain of supply to look up where and when it was caught. If you are buying Red Snapper directly on the WildSeafoodMarket website, there is no supply chain. There are simply our boats to catch the fish, our market where they’re temporarily stored, and the shipping we use to transport your fresh, unprocessed Red Snapper.
Cooking Red Snapper & Prep
Red Snapper is one of the easiest fish to cook just so long as you don’t overcook it. The flavor of the fish itself, without any additional spices, is remarkable. Many claim that simply adding a little salt and pepper to a quick ‘pan fry’ yields the most natural flavor with just enough ‘extra’.
We put out our own twist on it with this Zesty Blackened Snapper recipe.
If you’d like the collar or “wings” included in your order, leave a note in the Special Instructions at checkout (under the Shipping & Payments section). Cheeks are only available with groupers.
Red Snapper Prices
How much does Red Snapper cost per pound?
Red Snapper fillets average $30 a pound from reputable seafood suppliers. If you’re not near the coast, expect to pay more with shipping costs considered. Whole Red Snapper typically runs around $12 per pound. This price variance is due to the amount of fish that is not editble once it’s filleted. However, keep in mind the skin is great for dogs and the heads can be used for stew.
What does Wild Seafood Co. charge per pound of whole red snapper?
At Wild Seafood Market, we do our best to ensure our Red Snapper is affordable for all customers. Going into 2022, we are currently charging $10 per pound of Whole Red Snapper. Customers have the option to have their fish filleted, however the price is always listed as the price per pound of the whole fish. Once filleted, the red snapper will yield roughly 35% of meat. Wild Seafood Company provides Red Snapper that is caught in the Gulf of Mexico and brought fresh to our docks in Madeira Beach, Florida. We do not sell farm-raised or foreign, previously frozen Red Snapper.
Our price fluctuates with both market value and demand. To see our current price, look directly below the product title at the top of this page. As supply and demand are in constant change along with the seasons in which this particular species can be procured, there may be times that we don’t have any in stock.
Should I order whole, or filleted red snapper?
If you don’t mind paying a bit extra for shipping, and you have skill with the fillet knife, we always recommend ordering the whole red snapper. Ordering the whole fish allows the edible fillet to remain it’s freshest form once cooked. However, fish larger than 5 pounds will have to be filleted prior to shipping to allow room for the fish to fit within our shipping coolers. If you’re in the Pinellas County, Florida area you can order online and pick up at our market in John’s Pass of Madeira Beach, Florida
